10 Things to Avoid on Your Wedding Day
There are countless lists highlighting what you need to do leading up to, and on, your wedding day, and although they are helpful, they also add a lot of unnecessary stress for most brides. Being a wedding photographer, I have seen that stress first-hand. It’s now my mission to help as many brides as I can avoid unnecessary pressures so they can simply enjoy the best day of their lives. From an experienced Puerto Rico wedding photographer, here are five things to avoid on your wedding day.
1. Stressing When Things Don’t Go According to Plan
It’s inevitable that something is going to go wrong on your wedding day. You can plan as diligently as you want, but life will still throw curve balls. Accepting that simple fact can alleviate a lot of stress on your big day. Things will go wrong, but more things will go right, and at the end of it, you’ll be married to the love of your life – that’s all that matters.
2. Plans for Anything Beyond Getting Ready on Your Big Day
As surprising as it may seem for some, there are brides that plan projects ahead of the “I do’s” on their wedding day. Those plans do nothing but make brides feel rushed and overwhelmed. Your focus should be enjoying time with your bridal party while you get ready for your wedding and nothing more – no writing vows, no packing for your honeymoon, and certainly no baking or decorating.
3. Putting Too Much Pressure on What You Think Guests Need
As a photographer, but more specifically a destination wedding photographer, I commonly see brides feeling pressured to sacrifice photos they have always dreamed of because they feel they need to get back to their guests after their ceremony. Your photos and time with your partner are the moments you will appreciate more than anything else once your special day is over, so don’t worry too much about your guests – they have each other, and likely, are happily chatting away while you are making memories.

4. Waxing or Facial Services
Of course, you want to look and feel your best on your wedding day, so it can be tempting to want to start your day with a facial or be freshly waxed before getting your makeup done, but those should both be avoided… with a ten-foot pole. Though it may sound like a good idea in theory, you do not want to risk having swollen or irritated skin before walking down the aisle.
5. Forgetting to Eat
Your wedding day will be one of the busiest and most exciting days of your life, which makes it far too easy to forget to eat. Help yourself feel your best, while you look your best, by ensuring you are getting the nutrients you need to feel energized and ready to celebrate. Pro tip: ask a member of your bridal party to be in charge of the reminders so you have one less thing to think about!
Just as you diligently follow your to-do list of things to accomplish before and on your wedding day, you should also just as diligently follow this list of things to avoid. Take my word for it – you won’t regret it!
6. Checking Social Media Constantly
Focus on the real-life experience and interactions rather than worrying about online updates and comments. Every moment on your wedding day counts, it is a life experience that will remain in you memory for ever with the help of the photography service. Stay focus on your wedding day and enjoy the ride.
7. Forgetting to Enjoy the Moment
Remember to savor every part of the day. Take a step back to appreciate the celebration, your loved ones, and the special moments with your partner.
8. Handling Last-Minute Details Alone
Delegate tasks to trusted friends, family, or a wedding planner to ensure everything runs smoothly without adding unnecessary stress. Have your wedding planner take care everything on your big day. It’s important that you spend your day relax and have everything done for you.
9. Neglecting Communication with Vendors
Ensure all vendors have clear instructions and a point of contact other than the bride to handle any last-minute questions or issues. If you’re organizing your wedding yourself or with a cousin, make sure the vendors have a clear instruction of what you want as well as the timeline of your wedding. Just imagine that you arrive to the altar and the preacher is not present, Ohh yes Have seeing this situation happens.
10. Wearing Uncomfortable Shoes
Choose shoes that are comfortable for the long day ahead. You can have a stylish pair for the ceremony and a more comfortable pair for dancing later. This sound like obvious but if I included here in this top 10 is because I have see this situation happens.
