How To Prepare For Your Classic Wedding

A classic wedding encompasses the tried-and-true themes that will never go out of style: plenty of greenery, white florals, simple decorations, a classic dress. If you’re the type of couple who prefers timeless over trends, keep reading this blog post for how to prepare for your classic wedding.

Invitations

Since you want to do things by the book, you have to start with your invitations. Traditionally you send off a Save The Date six to eight months before your wedding to give guests a heads up and allow them time to make travel plans if necessary. This is separate from your actual wedding invitations that you send out six to eight weeks before your wedding. These invitations will ask for a formal RSVP and may include any questions about meals if necessary.

Your invitations will set the tone to your guests for what kind of wedding theme to expect. Create invitations that don't go too over the top, have a simple color palette, font, and design.

Venue

For a truly timeless venue, shoot for somewhere historic. Venues such as a regal library or gorgeous museum like the Vizcaya Museum in Miami may be the perfect fit. You could also look for spaces that are open like ballrooms, banquet halls, or country clubs. These venues are typically sophisticated and don’t call for a lot of decorations. In the end though, with the right decoration, you can make just about any venue work.

You will also want a venue that goes with formal attire. A classic wedding typically means that your dress code should be on the fancier side.

Color Palette

A lot of whites and natural greens will surely give off classic wedding vibes. Utilizing a neutral wedding color palette is an easy way to enhance your venue while keeping the focus on you and your partner. Stay away from anything too vibrant but don’t feel like you have to be too boring!

You may want to add pops of color like blue or light pink. Make sure to check out your venue for any prominent colors so the ones you choose won’t clash, or you can even try to incorporate them into your palette.

Florals

One of the most classic flowers for a wedding is a rose. They’re full, feminine, can come in just about any color, and are available all year-round. Not to mention they are a symbol of love and romance. Other classic flowers to try are hydrangeas, peonies, hyacinths, and freesias.

Try to keep to a few florals and simple decorations throughout your bouquet and table decorations. If you do too much mixing you will get away from the classic wedding feel.

Music

The song, “Bridal Chorus,” is the traditional song that brides walk down the aisle to. If you want something a little more up-to-date but still classic, incorporate orchestra music like “Canon in D” by Pachelbel, “Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring or Air on a G string” by Johann Sebastian Bach, or “Salut d’Amour” by Elgar.

Dress

For a classic wedding dress, look for elements like ball gown and sheath silhouettes, delicate lace details, and sweetheart necklines. These styles are always elegant and flattering. Don’t forget your veil! A quintessential accessory for a classy wedding.

Look at styles from decades ago and decide which ones you feel are still relevant to today and look good. This will lead you in a pretty good direction when trying to find your timeless wedding dress.

Cake

You have to have a cake at your classic wedding. Cutting the cake with your partner is one of the most classic wedding reception moments. You can keep it simple with a white tiered cake which will also be great for your budget. If you want to add a few details, you can add some flowers, simple icing, or a topper

Reception Exit

There’s nothing more classic than an antique/classic car to make an exit in! This is a great wow factor and fun way to drive off with your partner. It makes for an excellent photo op too. Don’t forget to deck it out in "Just Married" signs and tin cans.
