What Makes an Adventurous Wedding
Weddings are all about two people coming together and solidifying their love for one another. The process can get murky when family and friends get over-involved. Take time as a couple to reflect on what you both want out of your day, not what you think is expected from you. If you’re not the traditional type of person, and you enjoy traveling, summiting mountains, swimming with sharks, or descending into volcanos (or if these at least sound exciting to you) an adventure wedding could be for you!
Adventure weddings shatter the ceiling of normal weddings, it’s all about the experience. Instead of spending your day in a ballroom, imagine spending it in the middle of a desert, or climbing a mountain.
No matter what kind of experience you’re looking for, it’s all about celebrating you as a couple by doing something that you enjoy together. These types of weddings make for amazing memories and even better pictures.
Planning Your Adventure Wedding
Think about a destination that perfectly captures you and your partners’ love. Was your first date a hike? Did you say “I love you” while snorkeling in the Caribbean? Or maybe going on a safari has been on your bucket list. Think about your hobbies and what you have in common to see if you can incorporate that into your ceremony. Either way, you need to choose an adventure that’s meaningful and unforgettable.
It doesn’t have to be an extreme task like climbing Mt. Everest, it could be as simple as going to the rooftop of your favorite skyscraper, or visiting the clouds in a hot air balloon. Use your creativity and passion to brainstorm where you want your big day to take place.
Guests, Or No Guests?
While adventure weddings are completely about you as a couple, you have to consider if there’s anyone you really want to witness your ceremony. When it comes down to it, the bigger the adventure, the more likely your guest list will be at zero.
If you’re okay with that, then move forward with the planning! But, if you have several people in mind that you want there, you need to consider their limitations and willingness to be a part of your adventure.
Some locations can be ideal for 5-10 guests, some could be perfect for 50 guests, while others are best left as the couple and officiant (and photographer of course).
If there’s not a way to incorporate guests into your day, you could consider having a celebration after the fact. Either later that same day, the next day, week, or whatever works best for you. Since you’ve already experienced your special day, you’ll want to share all that happened on your adventure with close friends and family.

Don’t Forget The Details
There may be traditional wedding details that you don’t want to ditch like having a bouquet or white dress. Make sure to take into account what you want to be a part of your day and figure out how you can work it in.
If you’re hiking, you’re not going to want to carry around a bouquet. Find a backpack that can accommodate your flowers or do some research on the trail beforehand to see if there’s any wildflowers blooming that you can scoop up to make your own bouquet!
